 Description:

Dr. Saiful Bahari Mohd Yusoff is currently a Director, Institute of Creative Arts and Technology (iCreaTe), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). With vast exposures in industrial design, his area of expertise is focused on Automotive Design where he earned his Masters Degree and PhD in Automotive Design at the Coventry University and Birmingham City University in United Kingdom. Dr. Saiful Bahari is active with research work and has earned many prestige awards nationally and internationally. His product has been awarded for Malaysia Good Design Award 2019 for Floating Crab Farming product by Malaysia Government, award for the Best International Invention and Innovation in Seoul International Invention Fair 2019 by Thailand Research Council in SIIF 2019, Gold Award for Seoul International Invention Fair 2019 / SIIF 2019. Knock-Down Fish Farming, Best of The Best Product Award for PECIPTA 2019 for Smart Disimantle Fish Farming product, selected for UNIMAS Blockbuster Product 2019 for Rumah Ketam UNIMAS Upgraded product (2019), ‘Anugerah Usahawan Sosial’, 1st Place. Malaysia Commercialization Year 2018 / MCY2018. National Level, 2nd place award for The Social Entrepreneur Award in The Malaysia Commercialization Year 2017 (MCY2017). He has also won the Malaysia Design Award 2010, numerous ITEX, PECIPTA Competition Awards, SIIF award, Malaysia Young Designer Award and Invention and Innovation Design Award (Industrial Linkage Diamond Award) and the list is endless.

He works closely as design consultant to many industrial authorities projects like Artificial Reef and Coral Planting with Fisheries Research Institute / FRI, Jabatan Perikanan Laut Sarawak, Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development of Sarawak/MANRED for smart integrated farming, Short Distance Electric Scooter with Malaysian Vehicle Importers Society, Malaysia (PEKEMA) and many more.

He is also active in conducting multidisciplinary research works where he was able to use his niche area of specialization potential to the optimum level. So far he has received more than 3 Millions worth of grant from his numerous research projects. He received 1.55Million grant for 3 Projects (TERAJU) in Pulau Salak, Lawas and Murum/2020, RM130,000 grant from MOSTI for Floating Crab Farming/2018, RM65,000 grant from MOSTI for Smart Soft Stretcher/2017, RM80,000 grant by the Community Grant from the Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia to boost Eco-tourism potential for Tagang project under the Jabatan Pertanian Sarawak/2015, awarded with RM50,000 grant by the Research Acculturation Collaborative Effort (RACE) to improve academic writing for design students/2014, his team was granted RM130,000 by the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) to design and create Micro Hydro Turbine for electrical consumption for the rural people; in 2010, his team was granted with RM1.2 millions by the Jabatan Kerja Raya Malaysia to produce sustainable instream horizontal micro turbine generator to help with the electrical supply for the rural people (he lead for full scale float structure design for this project).; he was also awarded RM20,000 by the Sarawak  Tourism Ministry to embark on the enhancement of River Taxi in Waterfront Kuching and RM20,000 by Persatuan Pengimport dan Pengedar Kenderaan Melayu Malaysia (PEKEMA) on the Electric Scooter Design.

With UNIMAS close to his heart, he actively supports and contributes to the university with many projects such as acting as the designer and inventor for UNIMAS in designing the look for UNIMAS transportation, new design for UNIMAS mace and mace stand, UNIMAS faculty building entrance semantic design and many more. He initiated the strengthening socio economic of Sarawak local community and has immeasurably assisted the community to endure the socio economy level by creating products that can help local community to self sustain. Direct purchase of Rumah Ketam UNIMAS from Mizab Global Bhd (RM16,000), direct purchase of Rumah Ketam UNIMAS from Perikanan Sibu Laut (RM13,000); licensing with Koperasi Belia Belaga for UNIMAS Smart Fish Farming (RM10,000) and licensing with JSMart for Dead Body Protector, DBPRO (RM20,000). At present, Assoc Dr. Saiful Bahari holds six (6) commercialized products and twenty two (22) intellectual property rights (IPRs).
