PETRONAS-P. Ramlee Research Chair

At the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FACA), academic staff are encouraged to undertake research projects under the auspices of the PETRONAS–P. Ramlee Research Chair. The PETRONAS–P. Ramlee Research Grant is designed to promote and support interdisciplinary and collaborative research in the areas of creative arts, technology, and cultural heritage. Priority research areas include design and innovation, creative performance, events management, and applied and functional design, as well as music, film, drama, theatre, fine arts, electronic arts, animation, and other related creative disciplines.

 

PETRONAS–P. Ramlee Research Grant 2025: Funding Cycles Announcement
 The 2025 funding cycle comprises two application rounds. Cycle 1, which opened in April 2025, is now closed. The next call for proposals (Cycle 2) is scheduled to open in Quarter 3, 2025. The theme for Cycle 2 will be announced via email to all UNIMAS academic staff in due course.

The theme for Cycle 1 is Sustainability in Urban Arts, with a focus on the following topics:

 i.    Art, Identity and Sustainable Heritage

Investigating how urban arts reflect the changing identity of communities and how creative expression can foster sustainable social development. 

ii.   Sustainable Art Practices in Urban Environments

Researching and integrating traditional arts, crafts, and performances into sustainable urban living, preserving cultural heritage while addressing contemporary challenges.

iii.  Sustainable Media and Storytelling for Urban Change

Exploring the role of digital media, VR/AR, and interactive storytelling in shaping sustainable urban environments and eco-conscious citizens.

 

Please take note of the following key terms and conditions for the grant:

1.    Priority will be given to lecturers and researchers who have not received prior research grants or whose previous grants have concluded.

2.    Research Duration: The duration of the research is limited to 24 months.

3.    Research Output: The minimum requirement is the publication of at least one (1) SCOPUS-indexed paper. The researcher must acknowledge the PRC funding with the relevant grant number in the journal.

4.    Grant Amount: The minimum grant amount is RM5,000, with a maximum of RM15,000. For researchers from science faculties, the grant amount may be considered up to RM20,000.

5.    Research Presentation: Upon project completion, all findings must be presented at the PRC Symposium organized by the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts, UNIMAS.
